Huawei 5G roadmap reveals July launch for Mate X 5G and another upcoming 5G smartphone

Huawei recently announced that the Mate X (in pictures) foldable smartphone will be available in India this year. Notably, the Mate X is the world’s first 5G capable foldable device that was showcased at the MWC 2019 earlier this year. Huawei had announced that the smartphone will be made available during mid-2019 for a price tag of €2,299. Now, the company has revealed the exact timeline for its 5G device rollout.

At the Huawei Global Analyst Conference, the company announced its 5G device roadmap for the year. According to the company’s plan, the Huawei Mate X will be released sometime during July 2019. The roadmap also reveals that the brand has a new 5G smartphone in the works, which will be launched later this year around October. Notably, this will be a third 5G-enabled device from the brand after Huawei Mate X and Huawei Mate 20 X. There have been speculations that Huawei might launch a 5G-enabled smartphone in its upcoming Mate 30 series or Nova series. In the roadmap, Huawei has also revealed that the first Huawei wireless CPE will be launched in June this year followed by mobile Wi-Fi router around September.

To recap on the Huawei Mate X, the smartphone comes with a 6.6-inch AMOLED display, which expands to an 8-inch screen when unfolded. There is a third screen in its folded state of the smartphone, which can be used to take selfies. In the performance department, the phone flaunts the Kirin 980 processor, backed by 8GB of RAM and 512GB of onboard storage. The chipset also features Balong 5000 5G chipset, which supports 2G, 3G, and 4G as well. In the imaging department, the smartphone flaunts Leica-branded triple camera setup comprising of 40MP (wide angle lens) + 16MP (ultra wide angle lens) + 8MP (telephoto). The same setup turns into selfie shooter when folded. 

On the software front, the Huawei Mate X boots EMUI 9.1.1 based on the Android 9 Pie. Powering the smartphone is a beefy 4,500mAh battery with support for 55W Huawei SuperCharge fast-charging technology.
