“The Samsung foldable phone teaser comes from the official Twitter handle of the South Korean brand”
Samsung has already announced that it will be launching the Galaxy S10 series of flagship smartphones ahead of MWC 2019 at its Unpacked event on February 20th. There have been talks that the chaebol has plans to showcase its foldable smartphone, called Galaxy Fold in a trademark application, at the same event. Now, a new teaser video posted by the South Korean giant all but confirms the unveiling of the foldable phone at the Galaxy S10 launch event.
In the video embedded in the tweet above, you can see the same image as used by the company in the invite for the Unpacked event, featuring a horizontal number ’10’ with a foldable spine running along the middle. This was one of the first hints that suggested Samsung might launch the Galaxy Fold at Unpacked 2019. However, what’s new this time around is the word play used by the chaebol in the beginning of the teaser video. The text in the video says ‘The Future Unfolds’ along with the date ‘02.20.2019′, in both English and Korean. Interestingly, the text also has the same folding animation that we saw being used on the Samsung logo in the past.
Notably, Samsung showcased the prototype of the foldable smartphone, at its developer conference last year. However, the device’s design was camouflaged by a case and didn’t give away much except that it will have dual displays. A more recent official concept video posted by the brand on its Vietnam YouTube channel gave us a clearer look at the upcoming Galaxy Fold. We could see in the video that the Samsung foldable phone is likely to have slim bezels and a large display up front.
The Samsung foldable phone prototype showcased at the developer conference in November 2018 had a 4.58-inch outer display and a 7.3-inch screen when unfolded. Other features of the handset were not officially announced at the event, though rumours suggest triple rear cameras, 8GB of RAM, 128GB internal storage, Snapdragon 855 and Exynos 9820 SoC options, and two batteries with combined capacity of 6,000mAh. It has been confirmed to have a limited run and could cost twice as much as the Galaxy S10 phones, with rumours pegging the price around €2,000 (around Rs 1.6 lakh).
We are little over a week away from the mega Samsung event and won’t have to wait too long for all the details regarding the upcoming Galaxy S10 line-up and hopefully the Galaxy Fold. Stay tuned to 91mobiles for the latest updates.
